Helena_paparizou_eurovisionOn Saturday, Europe will decide which Eurovision song from the last 50 years is the best Eurovision song of them all. And we’ll be jiggered if we’re not going to place a big fat bet on the result.

The Eurovision Song Contest has been on the planet Earth since 1955, just like Kevin Costner. But Eurovision and Costner couldn’t be more different - Costner is quiet and brooding, Eurovision is loud and brash; Costner is American, Eurovision is European; Costner is rubbish, Eurovision is… well OK, maybe they’re not exact opposites.

Here’s today’s instalment of Eurovision 50 betting odds, with some help - as ever - from Betfair.com

Domenico Modugno: Nel Blu, Di Pinto Di Blu (Volare) - Eurovision
entry in 1958
. Another Eurovision song that didn’t win the competition,
Nel Blu, Di Pinto Di Blu was beaten to the title by the French and
Swiss entry. Domenico Modugno lost because he botched up the song to
such an incredible extent that he had to sing it again. But the song
has become the most-covered Eurovision song of all-time - most famously
by Dean Martin, but also by David Bowie - although his version is
probably a lot of balls. Current odds - 20/1

Nicole: Ein Bisschen Frieden - Eurovision winner in 1982. We’re
guessing that 1982 was a weak year for Eurovision. All the countries
seemed to enter acts with ridiculous names - like Chips, Mess and Brixx
- and it was the last year that Germany won. The song is an anti-war
tune with depressing German lyrics about screaming birds and a general
feeling of helplessness. Still, the contest was held in Harrogate that
year. Current odds - 29/1

Helena Paparizou: My Number One - Eurovision winner in 2005. The
most recent winner of a Eurovision contest, Helena beat the UK’s awful
diamond-knicker gimmick by a mile - in fact, she was favourite to win that
contest from the word go. We can’t remember anything about the song,
but we do remember Helena being quite pretty. That’s probably not going
to be enough for her to win Eurovision 50, though. Current odds - 11/1

We’ll conclude these Eurovision 50 betting odds tomorrow, but in the meantime, check out
