She is desperate for attention, but she isn’t rejecting her fame/fortune/blah, blah, blah. She’s just terrified that she isn’t relevant in this post-pop, hip-hop/R&B world. Most men (and some women) want to jump Beyonce’s bones. Though they’re the same age, Beyonce is a svelte songstress that even the white/Asian guys love who’s on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. Britney’s is a homely, dumpy has-been with two babies and a loser (ex) husband. His Super Bowl commercial was more entertaining than whatever she’s put out in the past few years – and that’s SAD.

When she hooked up with K-Fed she thought she was going to do pull Madonna – have the babies, the bling-bling and the adulation. Remember that lesbo kiss between them a few years ago? Like Madonna’s first baby’s daddy, K-Fed was a backup dancer in her crew. But Madonna is constantly reinventing herself; though Madonna’s efforts to appeal to the younger demographic are as old and worn out as her coochie. Britney’s attempts have fallen flat and she won’t be able to (easily) recover from the world’s mocking. The best she can hope for is to become a perpetual joke, a la Anna Nicole Smith and we all know what happened to her. Sometimes I think Britney’s latest stunt was a means of snatching the tabloid press’ attention from the Smith drama.

I feel no more sympathy for her than other attention-getters closer to home. Many women go through the same family issues or worse without the luxury of having someone there to lliterally wipe their behinds. She reminds me of the high school divas who fell from grace, kicked out of the “in” crowd and derided by other cliques, including the social rejects. The’re desperate to bring attention – any attention – to themselves because that’s all they know. They’ve never built meaningful lives outside of their shallow existence and then they’re beside themselves in self-pity. I’m supposed to feel sorry for someone when I have a real life to live? Puh-lease.

Think carefully for a moment. In an industry where looks are everything, where a woman’s hair practically defines her (as sick as that concept is), Britney has chosen to sheer it all off. The obvious question becomes, “Why would she do it?” The answer is blazingly obvious. She doesn’t want it anymore. She’s sick of the fame. She’s sick of the lifestyle. And cutting off the hair is a subconscious way to reject all of that, with the hidden hope that her torment will subside. But she’s so codependent that she can’t just abandon the lifestyle. So, true to the borderline personality that she is, she makes a sweeping “statement” that her looks don’t matter any more, so stop paying attention to her…but please keep paying attention!

She is obviously in an incredible amount of pain. That’s what all the partying is really all about…trying to mask the pain. All drug, alcohol, and other substance abuse involves trying to mask pain in one form or another. The flashing, the risky lifestyle, all of it. It’s all about unsuccessfully handling pain. Undoubtedly she has issues that go way back, probably to her earliest childhood, that she’s never dealt with. And she probably doesn’t want to deal with it. She doesn’t want to have to face the pain, which is ultimately the only way to defeat it. Instead, like so many others who fight various forms of addiction, she prefers to mask the pain instead.

So unlike 99.999% of all other respondents, I actually feel sorry for her. I know, she’s got millions. She’s got “everything she wants.” But in fact, she doesn’t. She hoped that all the fame, success, fan-love, and fortune would eliminate the pain. Unfortunately, that’s not the way life works.

I don’t know what the source of her particular pain is. But I guarantee it’s there. And anyone who tries to pretend that all this is something else, that it’s yet another reason to “love” Britney or mock Britney or drag her through the streets or what-have you, is simply missing the point about what’s really going on here. This is a young woman who is crying out for help. And all she gets for her trouble is “fan-love,” mocking, and verbal abuse. None of them really give a damn about her as a human being, or else they’d behave differently.
