It's been about 12 years since Axl Rose was properly famous instead of being a weird-haired recluse of a rockstar, slaving away on an album that nobody cares about any more. But that doesn't stop him acting like a demented rock badboy.
According to reports, Axl Rose was arrested in Sweden yesterday after getting in an argument with a woman in a hotel, then punching a guard and chewing on his leg. It's not known what caused this apparent bust-up, but we'd expect it had something to do with Axl Rose being sad that the bloke with the KFC bucket on his head isn't in Guns N' Roses any more.
Axl Rose has a certain reputation to uphold – no, not the reputation for somehow recording Paul McCartney songs in a way worse than the original, but the reputation for being the world's angriest ginger. Now that he finally seems to have finished making his long-awaited Chinese Democracy album, Axl Rose can get back to what he does best – attracting publicity for going apeshit in public.
It was only a month ago that Axl Rose got in a fight with Tommy Hilfiger in a nightclub at the birthday party of someone who was in Sin City, and now it looks like he's at it again. Guns N' Roses are in the middle of a European tour, and was in Sweden earlier in the week. And, from the outset, it seemed as if Axl Rose wanted to cause the biggest Swedish rumpus since its predominantly agricultural economy shifted gradually from village to private farm-based agriculture during the Industrial Revolution.
Exact details of what happened are sketchy, but it's thought that, after Guns N' Roses played at the Stockholm Globe Arena – and then had a bit of a party at a nightclub afterwards – Axl Rose returned to the Berns Hotel a bit worse for wear and started arguing with a woman in the lobby. Then, when guards started to intervene, Rose punched one of them and then bit him on the leg. In the scuffle, a hotel mirror was apparently broken, and Axl Rose was restrained, handcuffed and arrested on suspicion of on suspicion of attacking and threatening the guard, as well as causing damage to hotel property.
Axl Rose could have been detained until Friday, potentially putting tonight's Oslo Guns N' Roses concert in jeopardy – but Rose was released last night after paying a few thousand euros in fines. Phew, for a minute there we were worried about the wellbeing of every Norwegian around who wanted to see a tubby ginger man in his mid-forties with cornrows singing songs that were famous 15 years ago.
