This week: Religion
If hecklerspray had a time machine we'd totally travel back and warn the Aztecs about Cortes. Then, once properly adored, we'd move all our crap into the God-room atop their vine-covered temple and allow them to worship us the way all non-Aztecs apparently deserved.
But unfortunately time machines are at least a decade out, and by the time they get here we're sure gaining the respect of long-dead native American peoples will no longer concern us. It'd be cool though, wouldn't it?
Just ask Steve Cooper, he's a British guy who now gets worshipped as a Goddess in India.
Bahucharaji was the patron of Indian eunuchs. She was deified, apparently, after she cut off the janglies of her cross-dressing husband, if you know what we're saying. Fast-forward a few hundred years or something, and she's been reincarnated as an unemployed British guy.
Well, Steve Cooper is often described as having been unemployed at the time of his finding, but he most certainly does have a job now – as an Indian goddess. We've heard that both gender and mortality mean a lot less in India.
Cooper had some Indian friends who told him he both moved and looked exactly like the Indian goddess. He got curious, we suppose, and flew to India and entered a temple. In his own words:
“I feel as if I have come home. I was meant to be here. When I first came to the temple, I sat down and smiled. Everything fell into place. After about 20 minutes everyone crowded around and I naturally started blessing people.”
Naturally. From what we've read the people who seek his blessing all refer to Cooper as a 'she.' If you think this sounds silly you're not alone – a noticeably non-worshipped eunuch says of all this:
"He is a fake. I checked and he still has a penis. He is a male so can't be a goddess. He shouldn't give blessings."
But bless he does. And people travel days to get his hands-on healing too. One woman said:
“My sister-in-law came here and she got pregnant immediately."
Now that last quote can clearly be an indicator of several different things, some of which imply the severe need of a DNA test.
