Awesome Or Off-Putting: Mel’s Hole
Then buzz it up

Awesome or Off-Putting is a weekly delve into cryptozoology, ufology, medical marvels, scientific wonders, secret societies, government conspiracies, cults, ghosts, myths, religion, strange facts or just the plain unexplainable.
This week: Myths
Mel's Hole is a nine foot in diameter chasm in the Earth found somewhere in the mighty U.S. state of Washington, on the property (or what once was the property) of Mel Waters. What could possibly be so interesting about a hole, as to merit it's inclusion in this, hecklerspray's weekly X-Filey article? Well let us tell you - it's bottomless and holds the powers of resurrection. It makes sense now, doesn't it?
Mel's hole is a 9' gaping hole located somewhere near Ellensburg, Washington. The interesting claim is that the hole seems to be bottomless. It is used as a dumping ground by many locals there, and no matter how much garbage is thrown in, it never amounts to a visible pile.
Over the years the locals have grown curious about the exact depth of the hole, and they've tested it's depth a couple different ways. An entire refrigerator was thrown in at one point, and it was never heard to hit the bottom. A dead cow was also tossed in, and again, no splattering impact could be detected. A length of fishing line - 1500 feet - was lowered in too, and it never reached the bottom.
As for the holes powers to bring back the dead, well let's let Mel tell you for himself. This is an extract from a radio interview Mel Waters did on Feb 27, 1997, with Coast to Coast AM's Art Bell:
Mel: Yeah, this could be an apocryphal story but one guy claims he threw his departed canine down into the hole
Art: Oh really?
Mel: …and he swears… well, the story is the guy that did it swears the dog actually came back to him. And…
Art: Oh really!?
Mel: The story is that he was a hunter and he was out there hunting and he saw the same dog, he had the same collar, he had the same little metal thing on his collar there and he said it was the same dog and he says he knew he had threw the dog into the hole… now that's…now that's not my dog!
Art: Its not your story but its a story of a resurrected dog.
An important thing to note is that the hole in Washington is not the only one claimed to be in existence. In Nevada there is another one, which differs slightly from the original. The Nevada hole is completely lined with an odd metal, and has a metallic rim on it's lip. As far as stories go, this Nevada hole is much stranger, and far too complicated to sum up in the few paragraphs allotted in our space here - except to say part of the tale includes a weird human/seal looking creature quickly forming inside a screaming sheep lowered into the hole with a cage and a rope. We highly suggest you Google that one.
Mel isn't telling the exact location of Mel's Hole, and as far as hecklerspray knows, nobody else whose been there has ever spoken out. Expeditions have been formed in an attempt to find it by gathering clues dropped by Waters, but thus far they've all failed.
Another doubt causing factoid worth considering is that the hole is resistant to having it's photo taken - meaning yeah, it's out there, but for some reason no image (i.e. proof) of it is obtainable. That tidbit casts a long shadow indeed.
All the same, when Waters goes on Coast to Coast AM to talk about the holes, you know you're in for a riveting listen. If he's writing all this stuff he's a sci-fi genius. If it's real, and the holes actually exist with all their mystic powers, then it's time we get better acquainted with the world we live in.

On the official site there is some google map feeds of the hole’s location and another 5 miles or so away.

We are coming this summer to investigate and survey the military defense as the other investigators have done (Ju - Amnp\\ Isreal. IA). We have primary plans to ignite the hole from video remote control arial vessels and intend no assult or harm to what or who is protecting the hole’s satellite detection and recent publicity. We will enforce our presence per Barrett M82A1/xm 107 from 1 mile observation/activation posts for recon missions only.
