This week: Ufology
UFO sightings are generally written off by the general public. Sightings of actual aliens are often considered even more laughable. But when a sighting results in a bunch of people high-tailing it frantically to the local sheriff's office to report oodles of aliens crawling all over the house they were staying in, a bit more interest and concern may be invested in the story.
And so it was in Kelly Station, Kentucky, 1955, with a sighting that has come to be known as 'The Little Green Men Of Kelly'.
There was a small gathering at the home of Elmer "Lucky" Sutton, a farm owner in Kelly Station, Kentucky. One of the attendees was a man named Billy Ray Taylor, who was helping himself to some well water when he saw something strange. He saw a 'disc-shaped cylindrical object' fly through the sky and land by a neighbouring farm. He described it thusly:
"It had all the colours of the rainbow in it."
The rest of his party, as should be expected, did not believe him. A few hours passed, and the dogs started barking. Lucky Sutton and Billy Ray looked out the window to see a glow approaching the rear of the house. They grabbed their shotguns and waited on the porch, where they swear to have seen a man no taller than 3 1/2 feet inching along in the distance. The men pointed their weapons, but didn't fire just yet.
The two claim the little creature floated more than walked. They also said it had an almost perfectly round large head, with eyes that glowed yellow, and pointed ears. The being also had long arms that stretched nearly to the ground. The men claimed the entity appeared to be made of a glowing silver metal. They described this glow as looking like the "radium dial of a wristwatch."
When the floating monster was within 20 feet, the men fired their weapons at it. They said the creature did something like a backflip, regained it's footing, then scampered off to the side of the house. The men retreated indoors, where several other guests were well aware of the goings on. Another creature appeared in a window, the men shot at it with the exact same results.
Taylor and Sutton wanted to see if either of the creatures were hit. They stepped back onto the porch where Billy Ray's eyes had to readjust before he could see anything. Those watching him from within the house saw a clawed hand reach down from the roof and grab at his scalp. One of the Suttons pulled the man back indoors. Lucky then jumped to the ground, whirled around and shot roof-ward, knocking the creature off.
Minutes later a creature was seen sitting in the branches of a maple tree. More shots were fired, and a hit was made. The sound was described as being very similar to the ping a metal bucket would make if hit with shotgun pellets. Instead of falling, the thing floated to the ground, and disappeared into the darkness.
By 11:00 PM, the activity seemed to have stopped. The family and their guests took the opportunity to climb into two vehicles, guns in hand, and drive to the local PD. Headlines ran with the story, sometimes claiming as many as 15 creatures had attacked the house. Truth be told, no more than two were ever seen at one time, and not once did they even try to enter the house.
What exactly the creatures wanted is completely unknown. Their nature, too, can only be speculated upon. It seems they weren't there to feast upon the entrails of the gathered family and friends. In fact, they never fired anything weapon-like towards the house. The only thing known for sure is the 'aliens' were quite curious as to what was happening inside, and it seems they only got a glimpse or two to satisfy their inquisitiveness.
