Awesome or Off-Putting is a weekly delve into cryptozoology, ufology, aliens, medical marvels, scientific wonders, secret societies, government conspiracies, cults, ghosts, EVPs, myths, ancient artifacts, religion, strange facts, odd sightings or just the plain unexplainable.
This week: Ufology/Aliens
Dennis Kucinich is a US Congressman, and is currently trying to fill the Democratic ticket for president of the United States. He was in the middle of a debate recently when Tim Russert, debate moderator, asked him with previous knowledge if he had ever seen a UFO.
Kucinich's answer, quite simply:
"I did."
Not too long ago there was a massive UFO sighting in Stratford-Upon-Avon. Tons of pub-goers recorded weird flying lights on their cell phones and posted it on the net. There have even been astronauts supposedly recorded smack of the middle of viewing a strange craft while in outer space.
The most recent point of UFO-interest comes from a book written by Shirley MacLaine, the godmother of Dennis Kucinich's daughter. In the book she alleges quite specifically that Kucinich saw a UFO while visiting her home. In an excerpt from her book she says he:
"…had a close sighting over my home in Graham, Washington, when I lived there. Dennis found his encounter extremely moving. The smell of roses drew him out to my balcony where, when he looked up, he saw a gigantic triangular craft, silent, and observing him. It hovered, soundless, for ten minutes or so, and sped away with a speed he couldn't comprehend. He said he felt a connection in his heart and heard directions in his mind."
It's not so odd that someone presidential saw a UFO – Jimmy Carter did back before he was president. He went on to release loads of UFO related material to the public. Even the now glorified Ronald Reagan is said to have believed he saw the things more than once – this info also came out in a book.
What we find interesting about the above quote is the line "…heard directions in his mind." We haven't found anywhere that specifies what exactly those directions were, but we are very curious to know. Did the beings on board tell him to go warm them up a turkey sandwich? Maybe they just told him he'd make a super-good president.
Whatever the case, Kucinich seeing a UFO and believing it to the point of admitting it in such a stern, possibly career-ruining forum – it fascinates us.
There's gotta be something to it.

Timothy Good says
I enjoyed this piece on ufology/aliens. Of incidental interest, my latest book, “Need to Know: UFOs, the Military and Intelligence” (published by Pan) includes details of some former US Presidents who had knowledge of the alien situation.
