Tiny angst-ridden Canadian punk princess Avril Lavigne has got engaged to Deryck Whibley, the strange-mouthed lead singer of Canadian one-hit wonders Sum 41.
The couple have been dating for just over a year, and have just
bought a house together in Bel Air. Avril Lavigne and Deryck Whibley are engaged after he proposed to her as she finished her European tour.
A posting on Avril Lavigne’s website says "Avril and Deryck are very excited and they want to thank all of their fans for their best wishes". It’s the first time either partner has been engaged, although they announced a ‘joke’ engagement last year.
Although Whibley and Lavigne have been long-term friends, they’ve
both previously found love elsewhere. Avril Lavigne (CDs) used to date Jessie Colburn, her former bandmate; while Deryck Whibley (CDs) has been linked to rich internet porn star Paris Hilton.
Avril’s always made it clear that she wants to settle down and get married. In an interview with US Weekly last month, she said "I hope to make a few more records, get married and have a couple of kids." Does that mean she’ll stop singing when she gets married? What an unexpected bonus.
Also, will Avril take Deryck’s implausible surname? Are we going to
see Avril Whibley any time soon. Or will we hear the pitter-patter of
tiny Whibleys?
