Al Gore Climate Change ConcertFormer US vice president Al Gore is a lover, not a fighter. He may not be the most successful, smartest, most charming, handsomest, strongest, most successful or best-smelling politician out there, but he is committed to that which he loves – planet earth.

In fact, Al Gore loves the earth so much that he’s promoting a series of concerts in which scads of musicians will come together to increase awareness about the perils of global warming. We think this may be the best idea Big Al’s had since we heard he invented the Internet and, thus, us.

The concerts will kick off the new public awareness campaign, Save Our Selves - The Campaign for a Climate in Crisis. The campaign sweeps in on the heels of Al Gore’s educational, thought-provoking documentary film from last year, An Inconvenient Truth. We must confess we didn’t watch it because was educational, thought provoking, and a documentary, but we saw a trailer for it when we went to see Jackass Number 2 for the third time, and it looked pretty nifty.

Anyway, all melting ice glaciers aside, Gore and the line-up of musicians, which include Snoop Dogg and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, are hoping to spread something infectious to millions of people. Not the infectious strain of staphylococcal pustulosis that may be living on the seats of hundreds of port-a-potties stationed at each venue, but the infectious spirit of hope. Al Gore refers to the current state of global warming as a "planetary emergency," and that a message of "urgency and hope" needs to be conveyed to the world. And what better way to do this than through good old fashioned rock and roll. Maybe music is the answer to effectively promote moral causes. Hey, Heather Mills McCartney should take the travelling cast of the Broadway hit Cats on the road to promote animal rights.

Now, before anyone accuses us of not realising the seriousness of global warming, we would just like to point out that we applaud Al and others for making such grand efforts. Seriously, it’s important to be proactive in a cause. And in the spirit of global warming awareness, let’s have hundreds of people travel all over the world in fuel-guzzling tour buses and private airplanes to perform music using massive amounts of electricity for speakers and lights.

Good point well made. It’s a nice idea, but it’s shagged

So, if Al Gore invented the Internet, and thus, you, does that mean that Al Gore is Hecklerspray’s…father?!?!

  3. Kerry Says:

I was really interested to see that he’d got Richard Branson on the band wagon and that he’s planning to give up his global airline in support. Isn’t he?
