Abercrombie & Fitch seem to be strangely picky about the groups of people they offend. Taylor Swift fans must hold a lot more spending power than your average fatty.
Everybody’s least favourite clothing company was forced to axe a t-shirt that read ‘# more boyfriends than t.s.” after hundreds of angry tweens descended on them like screaming harpies from hell. In their defence, hashtags appearing on t-shirts make me angry too.
Fans launched a petition on Change.org?(who knew those things actually worked?) and asked for A&F to stop selling the t-shirt, calling it ‘childish’ and ‘hurtful’. So a lot like around 90% of Taylor’s songs, then. It had collected 86 signatures by the time the retailer announced it would stop selling the offending garment. Just to compare, a petition on the same website called ‘Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Mike Jeffries: Stop telling teens they aren’t beautiful; make clothes for teens of all sizes!’ has 77,000 signatures, and they are no closer to make clothes that go above a size 12.
If you call Abercrombie’s PR number, you’re greeted with a message that says “If you are calling regarding the Taylor Swift T-shirt, please note that this item is no longer available”, which just goes to show that far too many pre-teens have their own phone. They’ve also issued an apology through a tweet that is either extremely sarcastic or was written by a 13 year old girl.
They could have avoided this entire nightmare by denying that this had anything to do with Taylor, and was in fact about Tilda Swinton. I don’t think she has any crazed fans, and if she did, their protests would be so much more amusing.
Taylor hasn’t said a word on the matter, but then again she’s probably fuming that Abercrombie & Fitch think there are people in the world who are beating her at her own game.

Swiftie says
Abercrombie and Fitch don’t know what Swifties are capable of. Taylor wasn’t stressed because she knew we would deal with it. :)
Megan says
That’s hilarious! !!(x hands down greatest hash tag shirt EVER!!!!!

Bethany says
HAHAHHAAHAH ITS HILARIOUS AND HOW THEY SAID 90% OF SWIFTS SONGS ARE CHILDISH IS SO TRUE BECAUSE SHE NEEDS TO BE MATURE AND STOP WRITING SONGS ABOUT HER EXES AND OBSESSING OVER THEM WHEN THE EXES ARE JUST MOVING ON LIKE ANY SANE MATURE PERSON WOULD I MEAN LIKE OH NO WE BROKE UP THAT MEANS THEY ARE SATAN AND I NEED TO HATE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Emily says
Preach it.
mike says
i have no prob with Taylor or her music. But what i dont understand is how the boys keep dating her. Im surprised they come around, dont they fear they will be the next rant on her next song?
Stef says
Thats exactly what I was thinking!
TheAmazingSwift says
Lol, no. They have REAL meaning. Listen to Nicki Manaj then Taylor. See the difference for yourself.
Amber says
Be quiet. The shirt was funny and it should steal be on the market.
Tiger says
It should still be not steal be, if your going to try and dog someone out check your grammar please. And eveyone can keep hating on Taylor, and she’ll keep laughing all the way to the bank cashing those HUGE checks. A&F is nothing but a sh*t company that Lil mean girls shop at anyway.
Tiger says
I’d date her in a heart beat, if you don’t want songs written about you then don’t be a dog, and don’t cheat, you can hate all you want cause your not her, and you wish you had her money. She could crush you haters with her wallet.
Talisman says
lol. Oh, the level of maturity coming from both sides is underwhelming. Much like Swift’s songwriting abilities and vocal talent.
joann says
Abercrombie offends me by existing. Taylor is successful enough that she probably doesn’t need your career advice.
joann says
Yeah, she was female performer of the year last year. The only thing here is your underwhelming understanding of composing music and singing.
Stephanie says
I hate the fact that T Swifts songs are so damn catchy, I can’t help but listen. Still, I LOVE the idea of that Tshirt. If only ‘swifties’ weren’t so ravenous and got a sense of humour? If you don’t like it, don’t wear it. Simple. Guys have to start realizing it isn’t gonna end well with her.
Trouble2022 says
I think the trouble with ‘swifties’ Stephanie, is they’re only *just* clearing 13 and, as newly minted teens, now believe they know *everything* and the rest of the world knows squat in comparison. The slightly older ones are equally as bad; of course the object of their obsession’s own imaturity hardly helps I’m sure. However when they get older, and *not* being surrounded by the sycophants their obsession is, they’ll realise the truth – but until then I just find them hilarious as hell. The same with the ‘1Ders’ – one direction obsessional fans – just as scary as the ‘swifties’. Personally I’d love to see a war between the two sides in a big field somewhere – I bet merchandise like the cardboard cutouts (lifesize, no joke), dolls, lip gloss, bags and even stickers would fly! . ;)
Jade says
I personally do not like Ms. Swift’s songs or what they’re about, but her life is her own and who am I to tell her how to live it.
What bothers me, and seems to be the pointed edge of the article, is how few pre-teens it took to get them to take the shirt away, but how many people are standing up to them and asking them to do something logical and they just won’t do it. I find it disgustingly shallow, but that being said I’ve never shopped there, and as ridiculous as this might sound, I do have a certain amount of pride in that.

I’m 13 and I agree with Jade…

I like Taylor Swift. Who cares that her songs are about exes? Not ALL of them are. Most, but not all. What are Adele’s songs about? Exes. Cheating. Lost love. All the same, just done in a more grown up way. I like Adele too, she’s just an example. And I watch interviews with people all the time, Adele was writing about a particular person for one of her albums, I just don’t remember which one. Don’t hate on Taylor!
