The London Marathon offers all the best of British; a great crowd in high spirits (even in the rain!), great organisation, and… Jade Goody? Or not, according to the organisers of this years Flora London marathon.
Jade Goody, a woman previously most famous for not being able to pronounce very many words, has been criticised for not taking the marathon seriously and dropping out after 19 miles.
The Flora London marathon is an event where celebrities run alongside the public in a united desire to push their body to the limit, raise money for charity and have a great day out. Around 32,000 people take part in the gruelling 26.2 mile race and, alongside Jade Goody, celebrities such as chef Gordon Ramsey, model Sophie Anderton and Olympian Steve Redgrave took part. And finished. Unlike Jade Goody, who staggered along for a bit and then disappeared. Race director David Bedford was not amused by Jade's lacklustre attempt, and said:
"We, of course, recommend that everyone that takes part in the marathon trains, and to start by thinking I'm just going to walk round and not even be able to walk a marathon clearly shows she's done nothing and is not in good shape."
Jade was running the marathon for the charity NCPCC, who must be rather red-faced in having their celebrity drop out. Bedford was even more frustrated at Jade's failure to secure the sponsorship money for the charity:
"I don't know whether the marathon money that she was raising will be lost because she dropped out. That, of course, would be a great shame and would in some ways show that she should have taken the event more seriously."
Jade Goody blames her lack of training and fondness for takeaway food and alcohol on her abysmal performance. We’d rather blame society for allowing someone like Jade to feel she can conquer anything she puts her mind to with very little effort.

I like that. I took some video as she went past me. She was quite keen to scoff the sweets being offered to her by the spectators. See the above link for my blog which leads to the video.
