50 Cent Movie Posters Violent?

50_cent_get_rich_or_die_tryinGuess what? 50 Cent is about to star in his very own movie. Guess what else? It’s a movie about a lovable orphaned puppy that moves in with a family with a grumpy father (50 Cent) who eventually learns to love the puppy and his family.

Not really, it’s all about guns and bitches. And the movie ads for the film – Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ - are causing a stir amongst activists in Los Angeles who say the image on the movie posters are too violent.

50 Cent (CDs) is possibly the most lunk-headed rapper around at the
moment. He stereotypically mumbles about guns with his top off, and
suddenly he’s a superstar. And equally stereotypically, he’s following
other rappers into extracurricular business affairs. There’s the 50
Cent trainer line (like Jay-Z), and he’s soon there’ll be the 50 Cent
videogame (like the Wu-Tang Clan) and, most importantly, the 50 Cent
movie (like Eminem).

It’s the movie that’s getting LA residents into a flap. The movie
poster for Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ shows an image of 50 Cent with
his arms outstretched. In one hand, he’s holding a microphone, and in
the other a gun. We’re not actually too sure which one of these would cause us the
most pain, but LA activists sure do. They claim that the ads will promote
gun-crime.

One of the movie posters is situated next to a pre-school, and this
has provoked the ire of Najee Ali. He has organised a rally to try and
get Paramount pictures to remove all the 50 Cent posters from their area. MSNBC
tried to speak to someone from Paramount about the issue, but they
didn’t get any reply – possibly because everyone who works for
Paramount was too busy rolling around on the floor laughing at all the
free publicity that Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ is getting from the uproar.

You’ve obviously not seen ‘Boyz ‘n’ the Hood’ then. Ice Cube moved me to tears in that film, and believe me that’s hard. Also Tupac was fab in ‘Gridlock’d’. Check ‘em out.
