Destiny’s Child, one of the most popular girl groups of all time, have announced they are to split at the end of their current tour.
Kelly Rowland told fans at a concert in Barcelona on Saturday that it would be the last time Destiny’s Child (CDs) would ever perform in Europe. And by the time the tour reaches it’s conclusion in the autumn, the Destiny’s Child split will have been finalised.
A group statement by the members of Destiny’s Child said that they had been "performing together since we were 9, and touring since we were 14," and that "our current tour has given us the opportunity to leave Destiny’s Child on a high note, united in our friendship".
Destiny’s Child, probably most famous for that McDonalds
advert where the man gives them some salads, will now all go on to
pursue solo careers. They’ve had varying degrees of success already in
this – Beyonce had a global mega-hit with Crazy In Love and followed it up with an album that was mostly tosh despite sampling Shuggie Otis a lot, and starred in Goldmember with Mike Myers.
Kelly Rowland has also made solo inroads, doing that song with Nelly about being with her boo. And the other one, Michelle… well every band needs a Howard Donald, doesn’t it.
Maybe the time was right to knock it on the head. Their last album was a lot of sad ballady nonsense – their last two
albums, if you want to count that Christmassy album they did – and
they’d made the fatal error of selling their souls to McDonalds.
As well as the hilarious advert, Destiny’s Child had also named their farewell tour Destiny Fulfilled… And Loving It. The next logical step would have been a duet with a rapping cartoon Hamburgler, and nobody wants to see that.
So, goodbye Destiny’s Child. You changed the world, mainly by jiggling your bottoms around a bit.
