Russell Crowe (DVDs), currently promoting new boxing film Cinderella Man, was this morning arrested for assault in New York.
He’s been staying at the Mercer Hotel there, and was allegedly involved with an argument with a hotel employee. Apparently, he threw a telephone at the employee, striking him in the face. The hotel worker was taken to hospital and treated for minor cuts.
According to CNN, the actor was upset that he couldn’t make a call to Australia. It was 4.30am local time. At the police station he was charged with second-degree assault, and could face a year in prison. He’s expected to appear at a local magistrates later today.
You’ve got to hand it Russell Crowe. Where his contemporaries can drum
up publicity for forthcoming movies by leaping about like a divvy on TV
declaring his love for women – hello Tom Cruise – or by replicating one of their film’s
noisy love scenes – hello Brad and Angie – Russell’s always preferred to
be a little more, erm, hands on.
If he’s not roughing up television producers for editing out a long-winded poem from an awards ceremony, he’s having such fierce fights with businessmen in restaurants that only Grant Mitchell can break them up.
What will happen next? The world waits with baited breath.
