Jessica Simpson is sometimes unfairly maligned. After all, it can't be too easy to be 25 with a tattered marriage, a string of rubbish films, an overtly masculine face and a lawsuit for $100 million, can it?
That last one's new. Jessica Simpson is being sued for $100 million by the Tarrant Apparel Group (TAG) for not really promoting any of the clothes she co-designed with the company very well. $100 million? That means one thing and one thing only – should Jessica Simpson lose the lawsuit against TAG, her financial situation will leave her with no choice but to make a string of ridiculously shit films. So no change there, then.
Jessica Simpson is a bit of a clotheshorse. She certainly has the figure for it – have you seen those breasts? Her Dad sure has – so it makes sense that Jessica Simpson would eventually sign up with a clothing manufacturer to promote their goods. That happened at the end of 2004, when Jessica Simpson joined forces with California-based TAG to wear a bunch of the company's clothes bearing the name Jessica Simpson. Tag are now claiming that didn't happen at all, and so they want $100 million from Jessica.
According to court papers, TAG claims that recently-split Jessica Simpson breached contract by failing to support any of the lines, even naming one of TAG's competitors as her favourite brand of jeans. The contact apparently states that:
"Ms. Simpson shall be actively involved in promoting (TAG's) products, whether requested or not… [and] publicly wear/display or use the products, particularly at events, shows and appearances."
And now TAG says this didn't happen, despite the millions of dollars that Jessica Simpson was paid. However, Jessica Simpson's lawyers – presumably the same ones trying to stop Nick Lachey getting his alimony – steadfastly deny TAG's claims:
"She denies it. It's absolutely untrue. That's what the evidence will show, and she will vigorously fight the lawsuit."
However hard the news of this giant lawsuit must be for Jessica Simpson, at least she still has things to focus her attention on. Things like the new Baywatch movie and her never-ending love for Angelina Jolie.
