Destiny’s Child – the man-hating, bottom-wobbling trio of girls responsible for hits like No No No, Bills Bills Bills and Survivor Survivor Survivor – have been given a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.
All of Destiny’s Child – Beyonce, Kelly, um, the other one – attended the star ceremony yesterday to see Destiny’s Child immortalised on a bit of pavement. But this doesn’t mean that Destiny’s Child are reforming. Not until Beyonce realises that Crazy In Love was a giant fluke, anyway.
When Destiny’s Child (CDs) split up last year, the world was heartbroken. Even though Destiny’s Child made odd noises about not really splitting up,
most people listlessly took that to mean ‘we’ll reform when our solo careers grind
to an embarrassing halt’. But now all three members of Destiny’s Child
have got back together again, if just to watch the auspicious act of a
star being plopped into some concrete on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.
Beyonce Knowles – who can currently be seen trying to retain her
dignity in the Pink Panther movie, Kelly Rowland – currently preparing
a new album, and Michelle Williams – currently stacking shelves at your
local branch of Lidl, gathered together in front of fans yesterday to reminisce about the good old days of Destiny’s Child. Beyonce told the assembled throng:
"We started when we were 9 years old, and here we are getting a Hollywood star. Dreams come true. So thank you all so much for supporting us."
While Kelly Rowland chose to say:
"I want to thank you all for coming out here in this rain. We are humbled to be here."
Michelle Williams was presumably not allowed to speak.
So is the Hollywood Walk Of Fame ceremony the last time we’ll see Destiny’s Child together? Probably not – there’s bound to be a big Destiny’s Child reunion before the end of the decade. If not, who knows – maybe Destiny’s Child will all turn up to watch their Hollywood Walk Of Fame star get dug up and replaced with one bearing the name of Larry The Cable Guy in 2008.
