The Super Bowl is always good for raising one’s profile. Two years ago the superstar of the Super Bowl was Janet Jackson’s nipple, and the horrified face of Justin Timberlake.
This year, it was the turn of Mount Rushmore-faced band The Rolling Stones to raise their profile and cause all kinds of needless controversy.
During the Super Bowl halftime concert by The Rolling Stones (CDs), sound was cut from the broadcast when scrotum faced Mick Jagger sang lyrics that were deemed inappropriate for TV audiences. This was probably for the "You,
you make a dead man cum" line as, no doubt, the pious Americans
haven’t had to deal with necrophilia in a pop song before. A spokesfool for the event claimed that:
"The Stones
were aware of it and were fine with it."
He also added that the band had
previously agreed to a five-second delay on broadcast, should perchance,
Jagger mouth spew anything filthy.
Of course, the Stones are no
stranger to this type of censorship – as they famously changed the
lyrics to Let’s Spend the Night Together on the Ed Sullivan Show to Let’s Spend Some Time Together. Obviously this proves that The
Rolling Stones are just a big bunch of jessies who are willing to sit on
Uncle Sam’s lap for a tickle and a nickel.
They also had the lyrics to Rough Justice cut, presumably for the sixth form smut of:
"Once upon a time I was your little rooster/ But am I just one of your cocks"
One can easily imagine a proud Mick Jagger strutting and pouting
about thinking "we’ve still got it! We can still shock the system!" We
all know that isn’t the case. If the Super Bowel (sic) wanted to shock, Pete Burns would have been on the main stage, and we could all stare at
his weird pouty lips! That said, maybe that’s precisely why Jagger was
asked up.
So from 2004’s exposed tit to a wrinkly old tit of a has-been
this year, hecklerspray can only speculate who next year’s halftime Super Bowl entertainment
will be.
Chantelle, your time has come.
