As you probably know, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are expecting a baby. And you may also know that Tom Cruise has bought his own sonogram machine to spy on the unborn child.
Sounds cute, right? But not everyone is such a fan of Tom’s barmy sonogram exploits. The American College Of Radiology has spoken out against Cruise using his own sonogram machine, saying that if he’s not careful he’ll knacker the baby with it.
It seems like Tom Cruise (DVDs) just loves getting into trouble. If he’s not dismissing psychiatry as a pseudoscience on TV, he’s slagging off actresses with post-partum depression. But that’s not enough: Tom Cruise is now the bad boy of unprescribed ultrasound tests, and he doesn’t care who knows.
Just a few days ago Tom was on American TV telling Barbara Walters all about his new toy – a personal sonogram machine to eyeball the baby growing inside Katie’s belly.
And the general reaction from the world was a kind of resigned shrug –
but, then again, if Tom told Barbara that he’d fitted a zip to Katie’s
stomach so that he could open her up, climb inside and have a nap with the
foetus whenever he wanted, he’d have got the same reaction. It’s just
crazy old Tom doing crazy old Tom stuff.
But the American College Of Radiology has decided to speak out
against Tom using his own sonogram. Dr Carol M. Rumack, chair of the
American College Of Radiology Ultrasound Commission issued this
statement:
"This
is a patient safety issue. Untrained people, even if they have the
financial means, should not buy, or be allowed to buy and operate,
ultrasound machines which are, in fact, medical devices and should not
be used without a medical indication. The ACR is concerned that Tom Cruise has been badly advised
regarding the use and potential abuse of ultrasound. There are many
abnormalities that may be missed by the untrained eye. Also, if it is
not medically necessary, the use of ultrasound raises unnecessary
physical risk to the foetus."
Next week, Tom Cruise announces his intention to wire in an expensive home entertainment system inside Katie Holmes’s uterus so the baby doesn’t get bored, only to get slapped down by the American Council Of Putting DVD Players Up A Young Actress’s Mimsy.
