Rip-off blasting, un-Nazi popstar Madonna has taken time off from making Granny porn music videos to headline tonight’s MTV Europe awards in Lisbon.
Madonna will give the first public performance of her new Abba-sampling single Hung Up at the MTV EMA awards – which sees both empty-souled miserablists Coldplay and cartoon band Gorillaz up for five awards each.
Such is the excitement about seeing Madonna (CDs) crawl around a stage
singing that song off the Motorola advert that fans have actually been
camping outside the MTV EMA venue to get the best view of her. And MTV
is also beside itself at having such an old woman sing at the ceremony.
Brent Hansen of MTV gave the following, presumably straight-faced,
statement to the BBC:
"It is so hot for us to have Madonna."
But
Madonna isn’t the only performer at the MTV EMA awards tonight. Robbie
Williams, Coldplay, Black Eyed Peas, Green Day and Gorillaz will also
be playing and singing their songs for the assembled music industry whores and grinning pop fans. Hansen added:
"We have a very strong line-up this year and we’ve
been able to bring in a much wider variety of rock acts than we’ve been
able to do in the recent past. The market has been dominated by R’n’B and hip hop in the last few years. For us, this show states each year our belief in live performance and our ability to do something different from other people."
As for the actual awards, Coldplay and Gorillaz lead the pack for nominations. Coldplay are up for best group, best rock act, best song (Speed Of Sound), best album (X&Y), and best UK and Ireland act. Gorillaz are up for best group, best song (Feel Good Inc), best video (Feel Good Inc), best pop act, and best UK and Ireland act.
Other big-name nominees at the MTV EMA awards this year include 50 Cent, Gwen Stefani, U2, James Blunt and all the other gonks that usually get nominated for this kind of thing.
At least the host of the MTV EMA awards will liven things up – it’s Sasha Baron Cohen‘s alter-ego Borat. Borat has already given the press a taste of what to expect tonight by telling them:
"My 13-year-old son is travelling here by foot, with his two wives and
his three childrens. If he survives the journey I have
promised him that he can make penetration with Colombian prostitute Shakira."
